Kanni aka. Eric Correia
I’m Kanni, and I am a 3D Artist at OSnap Games.
I’ve been developing 3D art for just under two years at this point.
My humble start came from studying at George Brown College, which in itself, is useless, but this is where I took a bunch of initiative to meet and connect quite a few professors that are very active in the games industry. A mixed bag of some that work at Ubisoft Toronto, and some others have past professional experience contracting out other AAA companies.
Name 5 of your favourite games:
Diablo 1+2 is definitely my all time favourite of all the games I’ve experienced. I cannot count how many times I reinstalled Diablo 2 and roll a new Necromancer. There’s absolutely no other game I’ve played where I had no issue starting at level 1 again. This is what got me into dungeon crawlers, hack n slashes, RPG’s in general, and adore dark fantasy themes. At a very vulnerable age of 8 years old, picking up and playing Diablo 1 was probably my best decision yet.
DOOM introduced me to so many things at a young age. Gore, evil, hell, FPS’s, horror. I loved each and every bit of this. It is still one of those game I always go back to playing to this day.
Heretic II is one of those games that fell under the table, and was a sequel that did not live up to its predecessor. This game was one of my very first online experiences via GameSpy. My first taste of PVP. My first instance in my life where I unforgettably experienced what being ‘salty’ is like.
Aliens Vs Predator Gold was another game I frequented on GameSpy. The campaign was too scary for me as a kid so I just stuck to online play, and I think this is also where I discovered that players can talk to eachother. Hell yeah for 8 year old trash talking.
Guild Wars 2 is one of the countless MMORPGs I’ve played, but have stuck around to this day with me. It’s just under 4 years old, but I think I’ve shamelessly sunk about 5,000-6,000 hours into it. Even if you don’t like MMO’s/GW series, it’s soundtrack is absolutely beautiful.
Is there a specific moment or reason that lead you to wanting to build games?
I probably couldn’t pinpoint an exact moment in my life where I decided to build games. I always felt like it was something I could do, but at the young age, I really didn’t understand the whole pipeline. Thankfully, after graduating high school, I took a break rather than jumping into post-secondary as soon as possible. Here is where I looked much more in depth into game development and specializations. Nothing hit home for me until I started looking into 3d art. ZBrush sculpts, and hard surface assets brought a tear to my eye.
Who is your favourite game character and why?
What is your favourite weapon from any video game?
Favourite or most epic moment in your gaming history?
Too many experienced to even remember or put a finger on, but in more recent times, possibly leading my guild to some pretty nice victorious raids in Guild Wars 2’s WvW – where multiple servers play a huge scale game of King of the Hill.
